Excerpt from Cherie Scricca of Grand River Solutions May 10, 2021 email to Cherin Marie:
Dear Ms. [REDACTED],
I completely understand and respect your decision to not share any information about yourself or your daughter or to participate in our work. Our report will not include information specific to you or your daughter, and will not identify any victim or potential victim. If any victim, or victim’s family member, speaks with us, we always refer the victim back to the DA to make sure they do not share information that would compromise their case, but, as I stated when I spoke with you, we are not a law firm and cannot give anyone legal advice, nor do we ever speak on behalf of any DA; in all of the matters in which we work with victims of a crime, this has been our longstanding practice.
I think it might be helpful to clarify the purpose of our work; we are not seeking to determine what Mark did or did not do. Rather, we are seeking information designed to assist us with understanding whether the Church received any reports on which they failed to take action, or whether they knew or should have known about concerning behaviors. Our focus is to determine whether early opportunities to intervene were missed, so that we may make recommendations and suggest ways for them to improve. The Diocese intends to clarify this, and I believe you will be hearing from them.
Let me know if you still have questions, and if you choose to provide information about the Diocese’s involvement in, or knowledge of, any of the incidents in question, that information would be most welcome.
Respectfully,
Cherie
